Any property owner or occupant within County boundaries can request private driveway clearing following a snowfall.

Please note that County-issued snowplow flags can now be purchased digitally – the County no longer sells actual flags.

The County helps property owners clear snow from their private driveways through its Snowplow Flag Program. The clearing includes one pass of the snowplow unit from the local road to the general parking area of the residence and one pass back out to the local road.

To use this service, please call the Public Works department to initiate a driveway inspection. Once your driveway has been approved a Hold Harmless Agreement and Snowplow Flag Order Form must be completed. Please see the documents below or email [email protected].

The next step is to purchase the flags – at the cost of $70 per flag, per clearing. Flags can be purchased in person at the County Administration Office or via the County’s online payment processor OptionPay, see link below.

Then, when you would like your driveway plowed, simply call the Public Works department to have them place a digital flag on your residence in our database. The flag will appear in our GIS maps and only disappears when marked completed by the local operator doing the work.

Not All Roads in the County Are Ours

When the snow flies, the phone lines light up at County reception without fail. It pays to keep in mind that many roads in the County are the domain of the Province.

The County maintains range roadstownship roads and subdivision roads. After a snowfall event, our Public Works crews begin to clear these corridors quickly, safely, and in accordance with standard County procedures.

While our crews are busy maintaining County-managed roadways, we trust that Alberta Transportation crews are also working to clear the provincial highways under their responsibility.
