Understanding How Property Taxes Are Calculated
In Lac Ste. Anne County—and across Alberta, your property tax bill is based on two things:
- Your property's assessed value (as determined annually by the Assessment Department)
- The tax rates (mill rate) set by the County and the Province for the current year
Property Tax = Assessed Property Value × Tax Rate (per category)
Each property falls into one or more categories (residential, farmland, commercial, etc.), and each category has its own tax rates. These rates are expressed in mills (for example $1000 (assessed value) x .008263 (mill rate) = $8.26 (property tax)

Your property tax bill includes municipal taxes collected by the County to fund essential services covering areas ranging from road maintenance to programs.
It also includes requisitions—amounts collected on behalf of other organizations.
