Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services (LSACFS) and local authorities are deeply saddened to confirm that a house fire in the area east of the Town of Onoway resulted in the tragic loss of one life.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene the afternoon of January 8, following a 911 call from within the home reporting 3 people trapped inside the structure. Dispatching from three County Fire Stations – 26 firefighters and 4 engines were on the scene. Despite the rapid response of first responders, one individual in the basement was rescued by Fire Services personnel but later succumbed to their injuries. The fire caused significant damage to the home resulting in a structural loss.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. An investigation is underway to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

No injuries were sustained by Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services personnel.

Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services would like to remind all residents of the importance of having working smoke alarms and a fire escape plan. These measures can significantly increase the chances of survival in the event of a fire.
