This week, County staff, elected officials, and ASB members are in Edmonton attending the Alberta Agricultural Service Board (ASB) Conference, joining colleagues from across the province at the annual gathering focussed on strengthening agricultural services and rural sustainability.

The conference provides a forum for municipalities to learn, collaborate, and advocate on behalf of their agricultural communities. Workshops and presentations focus on practical topics such as invasive species control, environmental stewardship, and the delivery of agricultural programs that directly impact local producers.

“Agriculture is a vital part of who we are as a community,” said County Reeve, Jurgen Preugschas. “Attending the Alberta Agricultural Service Board Convention allows Council and administration to stay informed, share our local perspective, and ensure we are advocating effectively for the needs of our producers and rural residents.”

The conference is an important opportunity to connect with peers, exchange ideas, and explore innovative approaches to similar challenges. Attendance at the ASB Conference also allows municipal representatives to participate in resolution decisions that can help shape future provincial policy and program direction.

“Taking part in this conference allows us to bring valuable insights back to our table,” said Ed Gifford, Division 4 County Councillor and Lac Ste. Anne County Agricultural Services Board Chair. “Learning from other regions and provincial partners helps us strengthen local programs and better support our farmers and landowners.”
