Over the past week, the County has seen an unusual increase in the number of strays running at large. Our Enforcement Services team is working diligently under the authority of the County’s Animal Control Bylaw 06-2023 to capture and impound strays.

As per the Bylaw, Community Peace Officers (CPOs) and Bylaw Officers (BOs) are authorized to capture and impound dogs found running at large, with pound operations overseen by the department. Impoundments will be prioritised to ensure public safety. However, space within our arranged facilities is currently at capacity.

We kindly ask residents to avoid approaching, feeding, or attempting to capture stray dogs. Instead, please report sightings directly to Enforcement Services by calling their direct line 780.785.3630. This allows our officers to follow the proper process under the Bylaw while minimizing risk to residents and animals.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we manage this temporary situation in accordance with municipal regulations.
