A Salute from Above: RCAF Fighter Jets to Commemorate Mayerthorpe’s Fallen Four
As they conduct a flyover at the Fallen Four Memorial Park ceremony
Today, March 3, 2025, marks the 20th anniversary of the tragic shooting near Rochfort Bridge, Alberta, where four RCMP officers—Constables Peter Schiemann, Anthony Gordon, Leo Johnston, and Brock Myrol—lost their lives in the line of duty.
A special ceremony is being held at the Fallen Four Memorial Park in Mayerthorpe to commemorate their sacrifice. The event features speeches from dignitaries, a wreath-laying ceremony, and a moment of silence attended by law enforcement, community members, and the families of the fallen officers.
A highlight of the commemoration will be a flyover by Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) fighter jets, paying tribute to the officers' bravery and service. The aerial salute symbolizes the nation's enduring gratitude and respect for those who serve and protect.
The aircraft will fly over the Town of Mayerthorpe and County of Lac Ste Anne at an altitude no lower than 500 feet above the highest obstacle on their route. Flypasts by Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft are carefully planned and closely controlled for public safety, and are dependent upon weather and flying conditions.
The Fallen Four Memorial Park, established in 2008, continues to stand as a tribute to the officers, ensuring their memory lives on. This anniversary serves as a solemn reminder of the daily risks law enforcement officers face and the deep appreciation for their dedication.
