Longtime Local Couple Mark 65 Years of Marriage
Municipal Milestones
A remarkable milestone was recently celebrated as longtime residents Colin and Winnie Zapatoski marked their 65th wedding anniversary.
Married in 1961, the couple built a life and legacy. Over the decades, they worked side by side on the family farm in the Coyote area —having taken over the homestead from Colin's parents—they continued a tradition of hard work, stewardship, and commitment to family and rural life. Their years on the land shaped not only their livelihood but the memories they now cherish most.
Together, they raised three daughters who enjoyed being raised on the farm, that moved on to their own lives scattered throughout the province but always returned to visit their folks. Now, proud grandparents of six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The entire family remains steady, supportive, and deeply committed to one another.
Zapotoski's recently sold their farm and relocated to Barrhead, but remain in close contact with their former community. Reflecting on their momentous milestone they admit, it’s hard to find the words, but their focus on family has granted them the “nicest memories.”
Over the years, they saw tremendous change in both life and agriculture. In Colin’s early farming experience, the work was still done with horses. Over the years, they raised hogs and beef, then later focussed on grain farming, before eventually retiring. From horsepower to modern equipment, the changes were significant – but the steady rhythm of farm life remained.
“Sixty-five years is an incredible achievement,” said Deputy Reeve Dale Johnson. “I’ve known Colin and Winnie for many years. They’ve been a part of the fabric of our community for a long time, and Colin served our community for many years as Administrator for the County. On behalf Council, this is a milestone worth celebrating!”
