Lac Ste. Anne County is proud to join communities across Canada in recognizing Rail Safety Week, taking place September 21 – 27.

The proclamation, signed by Reeve Jurgen Preugschas on September 10, underscores the importance of public awareness about the dangers associated with railway crossings and trespassing on railway property. Rail Safety Week encourages Canadians to make informed decisions around railway property and to remember that safe behaviour can prevent injuries and save lives.

“Rail safety is a shared responsibility, and awareness is one of the most effective tools we have to prevent incidents,” said Reeve Jurgen Preugschas. “By staying alert near railway crossing, respecting railway property, and following safety signs and signals, residents can help protect themselves, their families, and their communities.”

The County’s proclamation supports the ongoing efforts of CN Rail and Operation Lifesaver, a national public-private partnership dedicated to rail safety education. Working alongside governments, Indigenous communities, law enforcement agencies, media organization, and the rail industry, Operation Lifesaver promotes awareness and encourages safe behaviour around railway tracks and crossings.

Rail Safety Week serves as an important reminder for motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, and all residents to stay alert, make safe choices, and respect railway property. Together, we can help reduce railway-related incidents by remembering a simple message: Look. Listen. Live.
