County Provides Administrative Update on Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Role
Outlining administrative change completed in accordance with contractual and legislative requirements
Lac Ste. Anne County Council is issuing the following statement regarding the departure of the former Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
The decision to end the former CAO’s employment was made by the prior Council. The specific rationale and supporting discussions remain confidential, as they took place in closed session under the provisions of the Municipal Government Act (MGA) and in accordance with privacy legislation. As such, the current Council is not privy to the detailed deliberations that informed the former Council’s decision.
Following direction from the previous Council the CAO’s employment was ended April 17, 2025, and severance was paid in accordance with the terms of contract in place. As per the provisions of the contract, the County provided a severance payout totalling $622,860, which reflects the contractual obligations in place at the time. We are providing this information in accordance with the provisions of the MGA.
“Council recognizes the importance of transparency and clarity when it comes to leadership transitions,” said Reeve Jurgen Preugschas. “While we cannot comment on closed session, personnel matters, we can confirm that the former CAO’s departure was managed in accordance with the contractual terms and with full compliance with legislative requirements.”
The County continues to focus on organizational stability and effective service delivery for residents. Current interim administrative leadership remains in place while Council advances the process to recruit a permanent CAO.
