After eighteen (18) years of dedicated service to the residents of Lac Ste. Anne County, Councillor Lloyd Giebelhaus has announced he will not be seeking re-election in the upcoming Municipal General Election on October 20, 2025.

Councillor Giebelhaus has proudly represented his division for five consecutive terms on County Council. Over the years, he has brought a steady, principled voice to Council deliberations and was called upon to serve in the role of Reeve for several of those terms. His leadership has helped shape important policy decisions and advance local priorities — always with the best interests of the community in mind.

Lloyd brought a rare combination of calm leadership, practical insight, and deep community roots to everything he did. Over the years, including his time as Reeve, he offered not only a strong voice for Sangudo and area, but a grounded and principled perspective that helped shape the direction of the County as a whole. He never sought the spotlight, but always showed up, always listened, and always cared.

“Lloyd has been a steady hand and a trusted voice on Council for as long as I’ve served alongside him. He always came to the table with the interest of residents at heart and brought wisdom and common sense to every discussion. His quiet leadership and deep understanding of this County will be missed more than words can say,” commented Joe Blakeman, Lac Ste. Anne County Reeve. “On behalf of Council, thank you, Lloyd, for your outstanding service and friendship over the years.”

Whether it was the Agricultural Service Board, municipal planning, or everyday concerns of residents, Lloyd approached his role with humility and heart. He has left a lasting mark on Lac Ste. Anne County, and his legacy of public service will not be forgotten.

“Serving the people of this County has been a great honour. I’ve always believed in showing up, listening, and doing what’s right — even when it’s not easy. After 18 years, it’s time to step back and make space for fresh perspectives,” reflected Lloyd. “I’m grateful for the support of my community and proud of what we’ve accomplished together. As I often say — without a sense of caring there can be no commitment. To Council, Administration, and Staff — thank you for your assistance, understanding, and commitment throughout my service on Council.”
