Council Organization and Governance

Interim County Manager Trista Court confirmed that all Councillors took their Oath of Office, Friday, October 24; and completed the mandatory Part 1 Elected Official Training, Monday, October 27; as required by legislation.


Council Remuneration Policy

Council directed Administration to defer Policy 01-017, Council Remuneration, for further discussion and review at an upcoming meeting.

This process will allow for time to consider:

  • Updating remuneration structure (salary, per diem, or a blended model)
  • Adjusting expense allowances and benefits
  • Establishing a regular review cycle

Council Leadership

Council decided on a one-year term for the Reeve position and six-month term for Deputy Reeve. These appointments ensure consistent leadership rotation and continuity across the Council term.

Using secret ballots, Council elected Councillor Jurgen Preugschas to the office of Reeve, and Councillor Dale Johnson to the office of Deputy Reeve. Following the election of both positions, the Oath of Office was administered.


Council and Committee Meetings

Council approved the 2025-2026 meeting schedule, including:

  • Regular County Council Meetings, 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, 9:30 am, in Council Chambers
  • Governance & Priorities Meetings, 1st Thursday of the month, 9:30 am, in Council Chambers
  • Municipal Planning Commission (MPC) Meetings, 1st Wednesday of the month, 9:30 am, in Council Chambers, when required
  • Regional Municipalities Meetings, twice per year, commencing January 2026, location TBA

Council confirmed appointments to a broad range of authoritative, advisory, and regional committees for the upcoming year.

Authoritative & Advisory Appointments: Enforcement Review Committee, Local Assessment Review Board (LARB) & Composite Assessment Review Board (CARB), Municipal Planning Commission (MPC), Subdivision Development Appeal Board (SDAB), Agricultural Service Board (ASB), Alternative Land Use Services - Partnership Advisory Committee (ALUS-PAC) and the Emergency Advisory Committee

County & Regional Representation: Darwell Lagoon Commission, Highway 43 East Waste Commission, North 43 Lagoon Commission, West Inter Lake District (WILD) Water Commission, Economic Development Committees, Seniors Housing and Transportation Committees, Watershed, Trail and Tourism partnerships, and Intermunicipal Committees with Alberta Beach, Mayerthorpe, and Onoway; and more.
