Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services responded to a significant cold storage structure fire in the early hours of January 17 destroying a County-owned facility and its contents. The fire resulted in the loss of essential equipment used for County operations.

Extent of Damage

The cold storage facility, which housed critical equipment such as Community Peace Officer vehicles, snowplows, and other Public Works support equipment was destroyed. Most of the stored items were destroyed or rendered unusable. The loss of this equipment has a direct impact on County operations, primarily snow removal and sanding of our hard-surface roadways.

Ensuring Service Continuity

In response to this challenge, the County has taken immediate steps to ensure continuity of services and coordinate with insurance providers. Thanks to partnerships with neighbouring municipalities and local businesses, replacement equipment and rentals are already en route. These collaborative efforts will allow the County to maintain critical operations with minimal disruption.

Cause Under Investigation

Investigators are working diligently to determine the origin of the fire and assess any potential safety concerns.

"While this fire has been a significant setback, our priority is to ensure uninterrupted services for our residents. We are grateful to our partner municipalities and businesses for their swift support in providing replacement equipment and resources. Together, we will navigate this challenge and continue to serve our community."
Lac Ste. Anne County Reeve, Joe Blakeman
“We commend the bravery and dedication of all responders who worked tirelessly to contain the fire and minimize its impact."
Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services Chief, Randy Schroeder

No injuries to personnel or firefighters were reported.

The Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services and local authorities will continue their investigation and provide updates as new information becomes available. Residents are encouraged to avoid the area while cleanup, safety assessments, and investigations are underway.
