Local Grade 6 Students Get a Hands-On Lesson in Local Government
Thursday, June 12, the County Administration Office was thrilled to welcome Grade 6 students from Darwell, Grasmere, and Sangudo schools for our annual local government tour—a lively, hands-on experience that brought classroom curriculum to life.
Each year, we welcome all local schools to take part in this special opportunity to see local government in action. This year’s group got a full behind-the-scenes look at how a municipality operates: they observed a live Council meeting, toured our Administration department, explored Enforcement Services, Fire Services, and Public Works equipment, and even took part in a mock Council session—stepping into the roles of Reeve and Councillors to debate a mock agenda item—the prospective purchase of Fire Services equipment.
Throughout the day, plenty of time was spent on questions and answers, with students eager to learn more about everything from Council decisions to noxious weed inspections. Staff and officials were happy to share their knowledge, offering insight into how different departments and elected officials serve the community.
“This ties perfectly into what they’re studying in Grade 6 Social Studies,” said Interim Chief Administrative Officer, Trista Court, especially how government works and the importance of being active citizens.”
The day wrapped up with a well-earned lunch, generously prepared and served by County Fire Services.

Here at Lac Ste. Anne County, we’re proud to support learning experiences that connect students to their community and help grow tomorrow’s leaders—one field trip at a time!
