Local Grade 6 Classes Visit County Administration Office
Lac Ste. Anne County offers annual educational tours for Grade 6 students to help them learn about municipal government firsthand. These tours are designed to align with the Grade 6 social studies curriculum, providing practical insights and experiences related to the functioning of local government. These tours typically involve:
Hands-On Learning: Provide students with a hands-on learning experience about the roles and responsibilities of municipal governments.
Civic Engagement: Encourage students to understand the importance of civic participation and how local government decisions affect their communities.
Real-World Connections: Help students make connections between classroom lessons and real-world governance.
Students from Darwell and Grasmere schools participated in the visit. This included a tour of the Administration Office with a stop at Council Chambers and interactive sessions on vegetation management, water treatment, equipment exploration, and much more; wrapping up the visit with a hot dog lunch.
The classes did their homework in advance – by preparing a mock agenda item to present in chambers in a mock council session followed by a question and answer period with Council and Administration.
These tours are a valuable educational resource that helps bring the curriculum to life; providing students with a meaningful understanding of local government operations and their role as citizens.
