Changes to the Dust Control Program

After much discussion, at the March 14 County Council meeting, Council moved to make some changes to the current dust control program that’s provided annually to County residents.

Historically, the service has been offered to the residents for private dust control at a subsidized rate. This subsidy, funded by public tax dollars, equated to roughly 55%, meaning residents paid $400/100 meters toward the full cost of $877/100 meters.

To make this program fair and equitable, and to avoid any budget implications, Council has elected to discontinue the subsidized rate for private dust control. Recognizing that there are many residents who utilize the service, the County will continue to offer the service at full application costs. At this time, two dust application options are available:

  1. Purchasing Calcium with a gravel application = $877 + GST/ 100 meters (minimum)
  2. Purchasing Calcium without a gravel application = $558 + GST/ 100 meters (minimum)
