Supporting Local Recreation
Supporting local organizations and facilities through the Special Recreation Tax
In 2024 the County administered $725,965 in support of local facilities and organizations.
You might not think twice about the line on your tax notice labelled Special Recreation Tax, but it plays a big role in shaping community life here in Lac Ste. Anne County.
This tax is part of a bylaw that applies a special recreational service tax to all residential properties within the County. That means if you own a home here, a portion of your property taxes is dedicated to supporting local recreation.
So—where does that money actually go? From skating rinks and community halls to playgrounds and sports fields, this tax keeps community spaces open, safe, and accessible. It helps pay for maintenance, staff, utilities, and programming—giving everyone opportunities to stay active, connect, and enjoy a better quality of life now and for generations to come.
But it's not just about buildings and fields. The Special Recreation Tax also supports recreation programs that benefit all ages—from youth sports and camps to fitness classes and senior activities. These programs build healthier, more connected communities by encouraging active lifestyles, reducing social isolation, supporting child development, and creating safe, welcoming places to gather.
Every time a child learns to skate, a senior joins a game of pickleball, or a new resident meets their neighbours through a community event—your tax dollars make it happen.
Through the Recreation Facility & Program Assistance Grant, the funds collected go directly into local initiatives that make Lac Ste. Anne County a vibrant, inclusive, and active place to live.
